Since 1965, the IUOE Local 115 Training Association (IUOETA) has brought union representatives and employers together to provide the best in training for industry in British Columbia.

IUOETA’s Maple Ridge training site is one of the leading facilities of its kind in Canada, with courses in Road Building and Heavy Equipment Operator, Mobile Crane Operator, Tower Crane, and Asphalt Paving. At over 40 acres, the site features real-life, hands-on access to over 50 pieces of equipment used in the field and to realistic job-site conditions.

Training and apprenticeship programs with IUOETA run throughout the year, with over 2,000 students on average accessing training and upgrading annually. Training programs are available to members and non-members.

Our instructors are experienced tradespeople and regularly serve as subject matter experts in over 20 related trades that they represent. We also set the standard: IUOETA participates on multiple committees in developing Provincial and National Occupational Standards for mobile crane, tower crane, and a variety of heavy equipment operation.

IUOETA opened its doors in Maple Ridge helping train the construction industry in 1976 and became the only designated training provider for the Red Seal Mobile Crane Operator Training Program in 1991.

The IUOETA also offers a variety of supplementary training programs in health and safety, traffic control, and the operation of light equipment such as skid steer, telehandler, forklifts, and mobile equipment work platforms. These courses can be provided at the employer’s premises or at the Maple Ridge training site.

If you are one of the above apprentices and you have completed a Foundation course or any level of technical training, looking for a potential apprentice position with one of our unionized companies, you will need to submit the following:

  • An IUOETA Training and Apprenticeship application
  • Your updated and current resume
  • A copy of your SkilledTradesBC transcript

Your submitted documents will be given to a Training Coordinator to review, and they will contact you for a conversation to get a sense of what you are looking for in your apprenticeship and work experience. They will share your resume with our unionized companies and will contact you if a company is interested in hiring you as an apprentice. If you are hired by the company, the IUOETA will take on your sponsorship with SkilledTradesBC.
